Willowfield Lavender Farm is situated on 28 acres just 20 miles southwest of Indianapolis, Indiana. Presently, we have 2,000 plants on four acres with plans to farm 4,000 to 6,000 plants on another six acres. Our first 100 lavender plants were planted in October 2001. Since that time we have learned so much about growing lavender in Indiana. Our largest areas are planted in "Grosso", "Provence", and several varieties of Angustifolia. We are experimenting each year with new varieties to learn the growing habits, colors, uses, and zone hardiness, as well as the subtle differences among the some 35 varieties we presently have on our farm.
Although we are not certified organic, we are totally committed to growing our lavender organically. We use black weed barrier for weed control and organic compost for fertilizer in the initial planting. Our farm is home to wildlife and wild flowers and we are devoted to preserving a natural environment without the threat of herbicides and pesticides.
We invite you to visit our farm and share with us the essence of this beloved
plant.
